Remove Picture Background using Word 2010

Word 2010 has a feature to remove unwanted background from a picture. There is also the option to mark the portions to be retained or removed. This is quite useful if an image is to be inserted into Word and has a coloured background, which is to be removed. Instead of using an external image editor, this task can now be performed from Word.

  • Highlight the image in Word 2010
  • Select Picture tools > Format and then click Remove Background. The Background Removal options are displayed as shown in Figure 20.1

  • The background changes to pink colour, as shown in Figure 20.2 below

  • Click the cursor just outside of the image or right-click on the image to remove the background, shown in Figure 20.3
